My Niece

My niece is getting so big, and cuter than ever. She says and does the funniest things. It seems like just yesterday that she was born and she is already a year and a half old! She still babbles, but she can say a lot of different words now. She actually called me a big baby today! It was one of the funniest things ever, even though she was just repeating what I said. When she was still a little baby, I always wondered what her voice would sound like and how she would pronounce different things. Most kids have certain words that they say in a really cute way, and she has quite a few of them. It’s amazing how soothing kids can be. When I’m in a bad mood or sad about something, seeing her it makes all of the frustration go away. Who needs a therapist when they have kids around! She is my first niece, so I will probably always spoil her the most. I am ready to have more nieces or nephews, but I am going to try my best to put off having one of my own for quite a long time. I will stick to hanging out with my niece and enjoying her for now.

Back to Work

Well, it’s time for me to get back to work after a few months off. I really do not want to get back into the workforce, but I don’t like being broke. I applied to a few different places, so I’m hoping to hear back from one of them soon. It’s so weird because I have been working since I was fifteen, and I got so used to always working and going to school. Now that I decided to take a few months off and haven’t had to do anything besides go to school, work is the last thing I want to do. I have actually been able to go out and do things whenever I want without having to plan around work. But, that is life for you, and it’s something I will have to do the rest of my life so I better get used to it! I just really hope that I don’t go back to working every single weekend. I’ve been spoiled and have gotten to go out every weekend. I am also going to miss sleeping in on the days I don’t have school. But, in spite of all the negatives I will have plenty of money once again!!

End of October

This weekend was a pretty good one. It was definitely a good way to end October. I went to two bon fires, and that is one of my favorite things to do. I hate having my hair smell like smoke for a few days afterwards though.  Saturday was definitely an eventful night. I did not even get home until almost six Sunday morning. I had a lot of fun and even managed to get up early Sunday morning. I hate sleeping my Sundays away. Anyway, I am pleased with how October ended and can’t wait for the rest of November. Next weekend I have a surprise birthday party to go to and the weekend after, I’ll be going to U of I to stay with a friend. My favorite part of November is definitely Thanksgiving though. The past few years haven’t been that great cause I had to work on Thanksgiving. My family always gets together and has a huge meal. There is always tons of delicious food and getting to see all my aunts, uncles, and cousins is a good time. It is always so nice and toasty warm in my grandparents’ house and the smell of all the food is wonderful at Thanksgiving. I am very much looking forward to Novemeber.

Miche Bags!

I recently got a Miche bag and they are amazing! For those who don’t know what that is, it is a purse that you can change the face of. It is so simple and easy. All you have to do is pull off the magnetic skin and put on a new one. Also, you can’t tell that he skin comes off, so it doesn’t look tacky or anything. There is three different sizes, one that is very small, one still pretty small but reasonable, and one that is pretty big. The inside is neat because you have a zipper pouch on one side and two open holders for your phone etc. I got four different skins and a base for 100 dollars. I pretty much got four purses for 100 dollars which is less than 25 dollars per purse once you consider the base in. There are tons of different skins to choose from and they are very reasonably priced. I know I normally spend more than 30 dollars on a new purse, and I am a purse freak so I am always getting a new one. This makes it so easy to change purses because you don’t have to transfer all of your stuff to a new one. You just take off the skin that you’re tired of using and slap on a new one. I really like these purses and I think others would too if they tried them out. I don’t sell these or in any way make money for saying good things about this, so I’m not just telling you this to make money or anything.

Bermuda Triangle...Strange

Today I decided to be lazy and watch T.V. most of the day. I was watching discovery channel about the Bermuda Triangle, and there is all kinds of crazy talk that supposedly happens there. There have been tons of ships and aircraft that have just disappeared from there and they are unable to explain why. The weather is very unpredictable there and is unforgiving, but the people on this show said that the ships and aircraft should be able to send a message seeking help, and that the emergency automatic distress response should still send the message for help automatically. None of the vessels or aircraft, which were most of the time driven by experienced crews, were able to send this message, and their navigation tools were malfunctioning. There have been some survivors that talk about experiencing a really strange orange fog that causes their navigation tools to become useless, but after the fog disappears everything goes back to normal. The man who survived what he believes was a time warp, told a pretty unbelievable story. He said in order to dodge a storm, he saw a gap in the clouds and went through it to miss the thunderstorm. The plane entered a tunnel which had dark rings in it, and the clouds were swirling around him. While he was in the tunnel, the plane went off the radar and was not able to be tracked anymore. He said he was only in the tunnel for about 20 seconds, and when he got out of it he sent a message to a Miami tower (that was his destination) and they radioed back saying he was already flying over Miami. His trip that should have taken over an hour to complete took him only three minutes. He would have had to be flying over 2000 miles per hour, but his plane tops out at 190 miles per hour. I don’t know what to believe because that just seems bazar. Although, I do somewhat believe because there has been so many people disappear in this triangle of ocean, and no one seems to be able to explain why.

About to be on my own

I’m not ready to go back to work, but I need to. I have been working since a week after I turned fifteen. I worked all through high school and missed out on a lot of things that I regret missing out on. I’m glad I did because I have a nice car and nice things, but I missed out on being a kid. I am ready to get out on my own, so I think I’m going to take a job at Red Bud Regional. I will be working on the med/surg unit, and that will be very fun. Although, I know this is going to be a crazy lifestyle with me being in school full time and working part time. It will be nothing new though besides I will have my own place to come home to, and I won’t have to worry about people coming in and out constantly. It just costs so much money to get all the furniture and deposits on all the different utilities and such. Hopefully everything will work out and I may even find a roommate to share the load with. I know it’s going to be hard but I am very excited!

The Month of October

I need to start shopping for my Halloween costume pretty soon. I think I am going to be some type of law enforcement this year. I usually just stay in town and find something to do every year, but this year I am going to U of I. My friend, Amy, goes to school there, and she invited me to come and stay with her for Halloween. There is supposed to be some famous rapper or something there, so it sounds like a good time. There are tons of people invited to this event, and I can’t wait to go up there and have a good time. I will most likely stay there Friday through Sunday, then I will have to come back home in order to be a school. There is also a hayride/bonfire coming up in two weeks! I am so excited for that. There is going to be chili and smores! Those are my two favorite things to eat in the fall. I think we are taking the hay ride to the haunted woods, so it will be pretty fun. I don’t mind the haunted woods. It’s nothing too great but it sets the mood for fall. This is going to be a great next couple of weekends!

Homecoming

This week is homecoming week in Chester and I’m sure all the girls are freaking out and obsessing over the dance. I never really went to the dances in high school, but it is still weird that I am not hearing about it constantly from everyone else.  I went to my freshman homecoming and my senior prom and that was it. I always got so tired of hearing about the dances and how “fun” they were. Both times I went, they were extremely boring and  a total waste of money. Some of these girls spend up to 500 dollars on a dress that they will wea r one time! That is just down right stupid to me. That is not the only thing they have to buy either. They go get their hair and nails done and all pitch in for a limo or party bus of some kind. Although, if they have fun wasting money on a four hour long dance then power to them. I will, however, be going to the parade this Friday. My sister and my niece will probably want to go, so we will most likely go and get lots of candy! I am also excited about the football game Friday. I wasn’t ever excited about the dance but I always look forward to the game!

Blackberry Torch

I got the new Blackberry Torch last week, and it is by far the best phone I have had. I have always used smart phones and have found them to be very convenient. However, this new Blackberry seems to have everything that I use frequently. I love the fact that it is touch screen and has three different keyboard options. It came with tons of free apps, and they are all ones that I use frequently. It has so many things to offer. It sends all of my e-mails, facebook notifications, social feeds of things going on in the world, and much more. I would recommend this phone for anyone who uses the internet a lot. It’s so nice to just get on my phone and take care of whatever I need to. The camera is also very nice. It is a 5 mega pixel and has a good flash.  As smart phone users know, the phone does sometimes run a little slow. I have had no serious problems with it though. It just takes a few seconds to go back to the home screen sometimes. With my other smart phones, it seemed as though I was constantly shutting my phone off because it froze up. I have not had this problem with my Blackberry. In my opinion, this is the best smart phone out there right now. I haven’t had the phone long enough to say that it is great quality or anything, but I know I like this one a lot more than any other phone I have had. It was quite expensive, but very well worth it for me. If you are looking for a good smart phone I would definitely recommend the Blackberry Torch.

Best time of the year is here!

I absolutely love this time of year. During the day, you can wear shorts and be comfortable, and at night you can put on sweats and a hoodie and sit around a bon fire. There is so much to do during the fall. My favorite things to do are riding four wheelers, fishing, going on hayrides, sitting around bon fires, and pretty much anything else outside while the weather is nice. Also, I love when the leaves change colors. It seems to put me in a better mood when everything is all different colors and pretty. My grandparents live on a farm, and I love going out there and just walking through the trails when the leaves have changed colors. Another really fun thing about fall are the haunted houses. The local haunted trails are ok but I like the big haunted houses in St. Louis. I'm pretty much a chicken when it comes to those things but for some odd reason I find them to be a lot of fun. The two things I don’t like about fall is the fact that it’s too cold to swim and also that winter is right around the corner. But, I will enjoy it while it’s here!

Credit Card Debt

I was paying my credit card bill online today, and I wondered how many people were actually dealing with debt due to credit cards. So, I did a little research and found out that the average amount of credit card debt per household is almost 16,000 dollars. Just to give you an idea of how many people have credit cards in the United States, there were 176.8 million people who had credit cards in 2008, and I‘m sure that number has increased over the past two years. Therefore, it shouldn’t be a big surprise that the total amount of credit card debt in the United States, as of June 2010, is 2.42 trillion dollars. Also, of all people who have credit cards, the average number of credit cards each person has is three and a half. I find this hard to believe. It’s unbelievable how many people will continuously rack up more and more credit cards when they know they can’t pay it back. Why would credit card companies keep giving people more and more credit cards when they can’t afford the ones they have? I don’t understand this vicious cycle but obviously it makes money for credit card companies and puts a tremendous amount of people in a financial pinch. I have a credit card so I don’t mean to sound hypocritical, but we should really reconsider spending money that we don’t have.

A Little Bit About Me...

Hey everyone, my name is Sara Harris. I graduated from Chester High School this May and am now attending Swic to earn an associate degree in nursing. I plan on going to Semo for my bachelor's degree once I am finished at Swic. For fun, I like to spend time with my niece, ride four wheelers, play sports, hang out with friends, and pretty much do anything outside. Some sports I played in school were cheerleading, track, and basketball. After that, I decided to quit doing sports and get a job. I went to a summer course at Beck in 2007 and became a certified nursing assistant. I have been working as a certified nursing assistant for a little over three years. I really enjoy my job, and I am very excited to be able to work as a nurse. As a registered nurse, I plan on working at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau. I really like Swic so far, I have met a lot of new people and have also ran into old friends that I haven't seen in quite some time. Anyway, this was just a little about myself, and I hope I will get to know some of you a little better throughout the semester.
